【摘要】:Thistechniqueisdestructive,inthattheglassfragmentsmayneedtobecrushed,andmustbedigestedinacid.AlthoughtheconcentrationrangesofthecalibrationcurvesshowninAppendixX1areapplicabletosodalimeandborosilicateglass,thismethodisusefulfortheaccuratemeasurementoftraceelementsfromawidevarietyofglasssamples.Thedeterminationtheelementalconcentrationsinglassallowsforadditionaldatathatcanbecomparedbetweenfragments.Astandardized,validatedmethodcanaidintheinterchangeofdatabetweenlaboratories.Itshouldberecognizedthatthemethodmeasuresthebulkconcentrationofthetargetelements.Anyextraneousmaterialpresentontheglassthatisnotremovedbeforedigestionmayresultinameasurablydifferentconcentrationoftheelements.Theprecisionandaccuracyofthemethodshouldbeestablishedineachlaboratorythatemploysthemethod.Confidenceintervalsorasimilarstatisticalqualitystatementshouldbequotedalongwithanyreportedconcentrationvalue.1.1Thistestmethodcoversaprocedureforelementalanalysisofmagnesium(Mg),aluminum(Al,titanium(Ti),manganese(Mn),gallium(Ga),rubidium(Rb),strontium(Sr),zirconium(Zr),antimony(Sb),barium(Ba),lanthanum(La),cerium(Ce),samarium(Sm),hafnium(Hf)andlead(Pb)inthebulkofglasssamples(irregularlyshapedandassmallas200micrograms)forthecomparisonoffragmentsofaknownsourcetotherecoveredfragmentsfromaquestionedsource.Theseelementsarepresentinsodalimeandborosilicateglassinngg-1to%levels.Alternativemethodsforthedeterminationofelementalanalysisofglassarelistedinthereferences.Thisproceduremayalsobeapplicabletootherelements,othertypesofglass,orotherconcentrationrangeswithappropriatemodificationsofthedigestionprocedure(ifneededforfullrecoveryoftheadditionalelements)andthemassspectrometerconditions.Theadditionofcalciumandpotassium,forexample,couldbeaddedtothelistofanalytesinamodifiedanalysisscheme.Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
